Tides of Time

My debut novel, a period fiction, The Tides of Time, is the first in a duology that explores a forgotten coastal town that once thrived under the Portuguese Empire. The story begins in 1789, on the estate of a noble landlord whose legacy now exists only in memory. The novel delves into themes of desire, love, loss, and betrayal, set against the backdrop of a crumbling aristocracy. As the protagonist struggles with passions he cannot control and loyalties that conflict, an epic sea voyage unfolds ending in a tragic, unforgettable fate.
''Several ships stood against the sea, some skeletons with mere futtocks rising to some height, yet one was on the verge of launch as men in great numbers worked to set it afloat into the waters that stood forth. A scatter of ropes lay spread upon the waist, and many more were held by the men who stood below.''
''Joa͂o Filipe hurriedly rode to the seafront. As he rode uphill, a clear view of the sea and the shipyard that marked the expanse stood forth in the distance.''
"Glancing at the path in front of him and the woods around him, he made a quick comparison to the last time he had been here; not much had changed. He remembered a small cottage in ruins then and tried to figure out where it was. Recalling his memories, he found his way to the house, which had now lost its roof, leaving only a few remnants of the gable still visible. The stone wall stood firm, gathering moss, and a certain weed had now flourished abundantly upon it. He had always wondered who had lived there, and it still remains unknown to him."
